This really is the $64,000 question! Overall, we all know that the cost for both modes of travel are on the rise - mainly down to the cost of diesel and airline fuel. However, one mode definitely has a big edge on the other and in this article we will discuss this fact. As an example here, let us say that you need to travel from London to Edinburgh. Now, would it be more cost effective to rely on UK flights or should you let the train take the strain? If you check out the relevant companies that deal with this sector, be it rail or air, you will soon notice that the airline industry has a massive edge over the rail companies. Even when you take into consideration that you have to pay taxes and charges with the airlines, you will often find that an airfare can often be around half the cost of a train ticket. (more...) Whether you are simply looking for Barcelona city travel or the awesome beauty of Florence, there are a good choice of cities for you to contemplate for a city break. In fact, as the UK economy is in a bit of a slump at the moment, this may well work out as being the answer for your getaway to foreign shores this year. At the top of the list, for the most popular city destination, you still have the delightful French capital, Paris. This city receives literally tens of millions of visitors every year and there is certainly no sign of this popularity ebbing away any time soon. The next most popular cities are Rome, Venice, Amsterdam, London and one we have already mentioned - Barcelona. City breaks wise, the second city of Spain is actually more of a crowd-puller than the capital, Madrid. (more...) If there is one country that I have been to on a couple of occasions now, that I feel is not publicised enough as a travel destination - it has to be Sweden. It would seem that far too many people have an inaccurate picture of this Scandinavian country: they think that as it is so much farther north than the UK and because a lot of the state is above The Arctic Circle - it is rather grim and desolate. This really could not be further from the truth. You see, many parts of Sweden actually enjoy a better and drier climate than here in the UK; yes it does snow more during the winter, but the continental climate that prevails here is definitely better than the muck we get thrown at us from The Gulf Stream. Accommodation wise, you have an excellent standard of hotels to choose between, or if you prefer, there are City apartments in the main metropolitan areas for you to enjoy and really feel at liberty to explore the Swedish way of life for yourself. (more...) Anyone who has attempted to launch a holiday excursion on a budget will know that accommodation, travel and vacation essentials don't come cheap. As a result, most of us can afford a maximum of one or two getaways a year, and, in the hectic modern schedule, this just doesn't feel like enough. It is for this reason that so many people have turned to the caravan as an answer to their vacation deficit. This brand of self-sufficient holiday-making is easier and cheaper than an ordinary, hotel-based getaway, so that most budgets can stretch to a trip every couple of weeks. Obviously, the caravan holiday is not entirely without expenses and chief amongst these is, of course, the cost of a caravan. While new, these are not cheap, it is possible to by reasonably priced used caravans UK. Browse the internet and a survey of local dealerships to get an idea of what might suit your budget and requirements. (more...) If you are a keen vacationer with a love of Sprite caravans, you will understand how important it is to insure your camping equipment. While this may seem like a reasonably simple task, the business of acquiring the right policy for you can be trickier than it initially seems.
To begin with, you want to make sure that the insurance policy you decide to go for accurately covers the value of your caravan. Remember to include any important features you've added onto your vehicle; you want to make sure these are accounted for in the event of an accident, especially if they were expensive to source and install. Read your policy very carefully. If there is the option to take out cover that pays out the cost of the caravan when it was new, you might want to consider going for that one. This will enable you to replace your irreparably damaged caravan with a new one, and will thus save you the trouble of scouring used caravan dealerships looking for good second hand vehicles. (more...) For many of its visitors, a vacation in Britain isn't complete without a tour of the country. Holiday-makers will find a variety of travel companies offering organised trips around the UK, and some of these are planned according to a certain theme. For example, you might take a trip around the literary landmarks of the isle, or a tour of the castles in England and Scotland. Tourists keen to take an extended sight-seeing trip of this kind will find themselves presented with several strategies. The first and most popular of these is, undoubtedly, the old-fashioned coach tour. Popular with senior citizens and school parties, this kind of bus-based excursion around the UK ferries participants from B and B to guesthouse, stopping at interesting places on the way.
If you're not keen on this kind of organised trip and want to plan your own tour of the country, you might be interested in renting a caravan for the duration of your stay. Choose from a range of campers, which will undoubtedly include popular Sterling caravans, and take a journey around the English and Scottish seaside towns. (more...) A mere 35km away from the second largest city in Spain - Barcelona - the town of Sitges has been attracting thousands of tourists each and every year now for many decades. This is the one town in Spain that can be described as truly cosmopolitan: literally offering something for every taste. There are around 4,500 hotel beds in this town alone and with 17 beaches and some of the best nightlife in Spain, this town has so much to boast. There are also some fantastic self catering Luxury Villas in Sitges and many of these will come with their own swimming pool and views over the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. There are some good museums to take in whilst enjoying your stay in this vibrant town. Two of the most popular examples include The Cau Ferrat Museum and Museu Romantic. The town also has some excellent restaurants and many world cuisines are taken care of. (more...) Okay, so although we live on a planet that has around 200 countries, this can still feel like a very limited choice at times. When you take out the downright dangerous and undesirable countries, this does not necessarily leave you with that much choice. If you are looking for a wee bit of inspiration for your next holiday away, you have a couple of choices. You could either go down to your local travel agent and bore them for several hours as they rattle-off all the suggestions they can think of - and trust me, they will have plenty; or you could check out the internet and Travel Press Releases to see if anything grabs at your imagination. When you start to scratch beneath this superficial surface, you soon see that the manicured travel resorts are only one side of the world of travel. There really is a whole world out there waiting for your exploration; the only question is: how adventurous are you? (more...) Does the very idea of a holiday that is completely off the beaten track for visitors fill you with absolute dread? Is it enough to bring on night sweats, then see you run to the bedside table to check to make sure your five star hotel room was surrounded by plenty of facilities? Alas, it would seem that far too many of us do actually feel this way to some extent or another. This is because whilst we are staying in our Holiday Villas in Italy or other similar country, we wish to feel completely safe. We work long and hard year round to be able to get away from it all and enjoy being waited-on and pampered for just a couple of weeks. The very idea of slumming-it in some remote country with basic facilities and landscapes far removed from Blighty simply cannot be an option. (more...) Having followed many people who have bought property in far away places, there is one thing that has really tended to show a pattern: that is how those who fail to plan properly for their trip to a new country are usually the ones jumping on the plane straight back home again. Whether you are considering property in Phuket or looking to Buy Algarve Property, this always seems to be the case. There is still a large proportion of the population who believe that everything will just slot neatly into place, once they get to their dream home in the sun, and this can transpire to be very far from the truth. If you have an idea of where you would like to move to - that is great! - but you will need to travel there first before taking that plunge. Moreover, ensure that this trip is a little more than a long weekend, and whatever you do, never buy property in an area that you have not previously visited. (more...) I promised myself many years ago that there was one natural phenomenon that I was determined to witness before I died: namely to stand in awe and take in the majestic splendour that is The Aurora Borealis. This is something that has captured the imagination of we human beings for millennia and I simply have to see them to appreciate what our ancestors would have thought as the lights stretched across the vast skies within the Arctic Circle. The good news here is that there are actually plenty of Northern Lights Holidays available to choose between. Within Europe, I have seen packages available to Lapland, Norway and even Iceland and this is combined with a myriad other activities, just in case the Northern Lights feel shy and fail to put in an appearance. Unfortunately, we are not lucky enough to live in a northern latitude that actually witnesses this type of event. To see the Northern Lights, your best bet is to head above the Arctic Circle, although in some places it is possible to witness them just below (e.g. Iceland is not actually in the Circle). (more...) Money is very tight this year and people are genuinely worried about their finances for the future. With this in mind, the annual Summer getaway is likely to be approached from an entirely different angle this year. The travel industry are noticing how people are attempting to find alternative ways in which to book their holidays. Instead of opting for luxury hotels, people are seriously considering things like Cheap Lanzarote Villas and this will not actually prove to be the compromise you may have first thought. To still have that perfect holiday this year, it may well be necessary to steer clear of the package deals through the main travel companies. To be honest, even when the economy is doing so badly, these companies have predominately failed to recognise the fact and reduce their rates accordingly. (more...) As an amazingly diverse country, it comes as no surprise to any of us that France continually ranks as the most visited country in the whole world. From the delights of Paris to the sun-soaked Mediterranean coast, you name it, chances are France definitely has it! The country also offers a fabulous choice in terms of accommodation. All grades of hotels can be found in abundance in France; as well as charming cottages, known as gites; and if you fancy Quality Villas France is always the place to head for. Paris is the undoubted capital of the city breaks market. With so many attractions and such a romantic ambiance, no other city in the world can come even close. You will even find EuroDisney situated just to the east of the city, which is ideal if you are taking the kids along. (more...) If, like me, you have had to purchase euros for your holiday recently, you may have been left weeping when you caught glimpse of the horrendous exchange rate you received. A Euro is now worth around 92p and this means that travel to Europe is very expensive at the moment. When you are away on your travels, the best way to work out the exchange rate is to knock off around 10% to give you the conversion into GBP. You should tend to find that most European countries will still be affordable to you, although you will not be getting the massive discounts on products and services you would have around 10 years ago. Then, of course, we need to discuss the ways in which you actually purchase those euros for your holidays in the first place. This will have a further impact on the amount of money you will have available to spend on your holidays. (more...) Nobody likes nasty surprises while on holiday, least of all accidents which could completely disrupt your trip such as a case of Dengue Fever in Brazil or a carjacking in South Africa. We can never be completely immune to any untoward events cropping up on our dream holiday but there are ways we can make our holidays that little bit safer.
Firstly, and stating the blindingly obvious, make sure that you have decent travel insurance. It is also prudent if travelling around to have some health insurance london or Japan - no matter whether you are travelling fifty miles or five thousand miles, you run the risk of being injured or falling ill. Having the right health insurance will make any incident all the easier to deal with.
Secondly, just be sensible. Easy to say, but this covers a multitude of things from not getting blindingly drunk to making sure that you only travel in parts of the city that do not have a reputation for muggings or worse. Do your research on where it is safe to go and stay within these areas, especially in a big city.

Every youngster dreams of backpacking their way around the world, whether it is dancing on the beaches of Thailand until the early hours of the morning or travelling around Australia exploring what this massive and diverse country has to offer. Whilst for many travel remains a pipedream due to the finances needed, others do manage to escape the nest and go travelling for a few months, either before they start university or before taking on a full time job.
But how do they finance this? Occasionally the parents will fund it in order to give their son or daughter the chance to see the world, but more often the teenager will manage to find it themselves through various fund raising activities.
This can include such activities as selling unwanted possessions in car boot sales or on the internet, or by getting a full time job for a few months before their departure. Once youngsteres have enough for the tickets it costs very little to actually live in these places, as accommodation and food is very cheap in much of Asia and South America.

Of course, this is not to say that hotels are not available. They certainly are. However, the value for money is not the best. In fact, it might be better to book an apart-hotel in Manhattan .
Known as apart-hotels or hotel-aparts, they are becoming increasingly popular in New York. The reason for this is that they are the same price as a standard hotel room, but have far superior facilities, combining the best aspects of a serviced hotel, with the ability to self-cater.

Once the preserve of the rich, cruises were thought of as formal affairs with cocktail dresses and black tie worn at dinner, but there are many cruise ships out there now which are far more relaxed in their dress code and activities.
Many people love the flexibility of cruising as they can visit several countries in just a few days even if it is only for a taste of what that country is like. They can travel between countries easily without even having to unpack their suitcase each time and the schedule is arranged for them so there is little stress. (more...) If your idea of a caravan holiday is one spent in a tatty and cramped caravan park with the rain pouring down outside and nothing to do, think again, as caravan holidays have changed dramatically in the last few years. Of course, you get what you pay for, and a top of the range caravan will cost more money, but you can still buy some great caravans at a very reasonable price. Designers have now got the layout down to a fine art and you can comfortably fit a family in a modern caravan. Lunar caravans are often fitted with the latest technology such as a microwave, LED mood lighting and a cooling fan for those hot nights. (more...) With the recent political upheavals over and done with in Egypt, tourists are once more returning to the country in their tens of thousands. In fact, the tourist industry centred around the Red Sea area was barely affected at all. In particular, Hurghada and the immediate surrounding area are hugely popular with tourists, particularly families. A perfect blend of sun, sand and sea combined with many all-inclusive holiday resorts means that an enjoyable and relaxing time can be had by all. When booking holidays to Hurghada online, you will be faced with a wonderful array of choices. As well as the obvious benefits of an all-inclusive resort such as the food and drink, many activities are also included. The kids will be kept entertained all day with activities such as beach volley ball, football and all manner of other things. (more...) Whether you are flying to Europe or you are looking at booking yourself a spot on one of the excellent Cunard Cruises, you will find that motion sickness will absolutely ruin your journey. In order to ensure that you do not end up nauseated, queasy and very uncomfortable for the duration of your flight or sea voyage, it is vital that you take steps to prevent motion sickness from setting in. While conventional anti-nausea pills are, on the whole, very effective, you might find that you need to supplement your medication with one or two more remedies. For example, it is always a good idea, before you board your plane or boat, to have a solid, simple meal. (more...) We all know that there is nothing worse than having to remain confined in the same spot on a plane for many hours at a time. If you are on a flight where there is very little or no entertainment available, this will make the journey feel even worse and seem as though it is lasting longer. To be fair, most airlines have cottoned on to this fact by now. Although there are still some airlines out there that will not provide much in the way of entertainment and these tend to be the cheap and nasty charter airlines. Whenever I am considering a longhaul flight, one of the main things I investigate first, is the individual entertainment systems that will be offered on the plane I will be on. If there are no good movies, flight games and music to occupy me, it really is quite simple, I definitely will not fly with that company. (more...) Kelafonia is a beautiful place and every year, thousands of tourists flock to its shores. If you are keen to take a trip to this fantastic destination, you will need to make sure that you are thoroughly prepared before you leave home. It is important to remember that Greece is a warm country. Most people choose to take their Kefalonia Holidays so that they occur during summer, and this means high temperatures and plenty of sun.
In order to ensure that you are ready for the heat and the UV rays, it is important that you pack intelligently for your trip. Remember to bring cool, light weight clothes in natural fabrics, and pack several shady hats as well. If you are planning to do a lot of walking around the natural landscape, it might be a good idea to bring a good-quality flask with you as well; this will help to keep your water supply cold and refreshing even on a hot day. (more...) Whether you are travelling to your vacation destination, or heading out of the country on business, if you are a frequent flier you will know that a long air journey can be ruined by the onset of motion sickness.
Indeed, it is vital that during the rush of pre-travel activities, you take time to organise yourself so that you are prepared to deal with the possibility of nausea on your flight. In addition to shopping, packing and organising international removals shipping to Sweden if you are relocating permanently, you will also want to head for the nearest chemist.
You will find that there is a wide variety of anti-nausea medication available to you today. Most of these are very effective, however, if you are in any doubt, simply ask your pharmacist to recommend a good brand. (more...) Organising a holiday is not always an easy task, especially if you have little experience in the field. There are many things to think about and a lot of planning to be done, and unless you have access to some good, solid advice, you may find yourself a little overwhelmed. In addition to finding Australia travel flights to suit your budget, you will also need to organise appropriate accommodation. This can be trickier than it sounds, particularly if you are keen to keep costs at a minimum. If money is a real issue on this vacation, you will be well-advised to steer clear of conventional hotels. These establishments are invariably very expensive, and the cheaper variations fill up quickly and offer a very low standard of living. (more...) However, the cost of such a service can sometimes be the straw that breaks the camel's back when it comes to the wedding budget. Thus the planning falls back to another key individual whether it is the bride or groom themselves, a best man or maid of honour, or even a parent of the bride or groom. A relaxing holiday can serve as a break from all things mundane and a tranquil oasis amidst the many stresses of daily life. A true break is one where you can be cut off from work, truly free and enjoy your solitude. Communication gadgets that enable constant connectivity can sometimes be more of a bane than a boon. Admittedly, there are times when we just cannot do without them, but then again there are times when we wish we could not be traceable just for some time! The golden mean is often the best solution and it lies between two extremes. If you're on holiday and wish to be free from all the constant connectivity, switch off your gadgets, but without losing connectivity completely. Get a cheap sim only for travel, and use it as a means of getting in touch. (more...) The island-country of Australia might just be one of the most beautiful and interesting countries on this planet to visit.
It's geographical position on the middle of the Indian and Pacific oceans gives it one of the most dynamic and harsh climates any continent can give to its inhabitants and tourists. Close to its north-east coast, Australia features the world's largest coral reef, the Great Barrier Reef, which extends for over 2,000 kilometers and has been one of the most highly rated diving spots in the world.
To contrast its beautiful oceans, extraordinary Australia has one of the oldest and least fertile soils. It's desert covers up the largest part of the continent and has caused many problems, like sandstorms, over the years for the country's cities and populations. (more...)
